What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
The ancillary task was to create a short clip that showed continuity editing. To do this task we used a HD video camera and tripod.
The HD video camera allowed us to record moving objects in quality even when we recorded free-hand. We were able to zoom in and out of the characters that were eing recorded. Also once we recorded a scene it was really easy for us to go see what we recorded on the camera which meant we could delete any scene that wee not good and keep the ones we think we would need.
To edit the recodings of the continuity editing I used Adobe Premiere, which simply allowed me to import the files, drag and drop them where I wanted from which i could edit what parts i needed and did not need.
By using this software I learnt what each tool could do. For example there is the split tool which allows you to split a frame if you want to insert something inbetween or delete some part. There is the roll over tool which allows you to simply rollover the clip and crop how much you dont need. Similay there are more tools which allow you to do more things. I learnt how to render the whole sequence by simply moving the skewers at the top. Rendering prevented the scenes from freezing. I learnt how to add special effects like fading into black or white by dragging the effect onto the scene I wanted. Another important skill I learnt in this software is how to fit a scene into the frame so that it does not look distorted or the wrong size.
I have learnt alot about technologies in the process of research, planning (post-production) construction of this media product. To research about the different movie genres there are I used Google as this is a good seach engine for information. Once we decided what genre our film was ging to me on which was horror/thriller, I used Youtube to research and find existing film open sequences related to horror so I could analyse them and see what features are common amongst the opening sequences of horror films.
The good thing youtube is that it provides other movies that relate to the same genre or plot. this made it easier for me to research and look at a wide range of opening sequences.
We also used the Camtasia software which records you while you are sitting in front of the camera and what you are doing on the apple mac. We used this as a group when we were talking about ou ideas for the opening sequence of our film. I did know before that there was a software that could record you sitting as well as what you are doing on the mac. I also used the Camtasia to recod my voice for the part whee Ally talks. To change my voice into a deeper male voice i learnt that Camtasia has a feature which allows you to chnage the pitch of you voice to how you need it.
To record scenes for our opening sequence we used the HD camera video camera because firstly it has goo quality and secondly there were parts we needed to record fee-hand, fo ecample when the camera pans down Megi showing her injuries. Using this camera meant that the recordings were not shakey. We also used the digital camera to take pictures of us seeting the scene, recording and having fun.
I created a Vimeo account to upload my ancillary task and opening film sequence.
I used slide share for the evaluation of my coursework. I learnt that I could do work in Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Word which I could thenm upload in slide share to make it into a presenation. This allowed me to converge to mediums together.
I used the iphone to record feeedback for the opning sequence of 'Retribution'. I learnt that I could record short clips and send them to my email, form where I could easily upload them to my Youtube account.
